[custom invitations] a modern city skyline invite personalized for any event

I’ve recently had a few requests to pick up my city skyline illustrations for a save the date, post-wedding reception party and two bridal showers! I noticed while redesigning each card that these examples really showcase how you can personalize any invite based on the events theme.

San Francisco Skyline: Reception Invitation [Gold Foil on white matte + Super Gold metallic envelope]  ~  Wedding Save the Date [4-color printing on white matte + Antique Gold metallic envelope]
Updating the size & shape of the card along with changing the paper finish, envelope color, and fonts will produce a very unique invitation. You can, of course, fancy up the design by adding gold foil printing! It may seem overwhelming to make all these decisions, but I normally offer up a few ideas along the way! 😉

Portland Bridal Shower Invite [9×4 cream linen]  ~  San Francisco Bridal Shower Save the Date [5×3.5 white + copper metallic]

[custom design] Destination Fiesta! Create a Stationery Suite Unique to Your Wedding

papel picado themed wedding

papel picado themed wedding
A custom designed papel picado wedding invitation suite; 2-layer card, 2 personalized enclosure cards + monogram tag & twine [white texture + mandarin matte]
Starting from your event’s theme — like the Mexican destination wedding shown here — is an ideal way to begin the creative process for your invitations and stationery. This is exactly what we did to create Liz’s wedding package after she Googled around & found Papercake’s “Papel Picado” themed design via Etsy! (Papel picado is a Mexican style of art that features tissue paper cut-outs.)

destination save the date card
A destination wedding save-the-date with envelope; includes papel-picado graphic + photograph

After the initial email inquiry & discussion on papers, colors, etc., I began the process with the design of their monogram, a papel picado flag with initials. (The monogram will set the tone for the special day & can be used throughout the wedding stationery, on the cake, favors, or even lighting at the reception! e.g. check out the postage stamp above – ordered via zazzle). I placed their monogram onto the banner illustration along with an engagement photo for their save the date cards. She had the guest & return addresses printed directly onto the envelopes by cards & pockets; (on their site, select the envelope color & size, choose your fonts, then pick guest only -or- guest + return address printing).

custom wedding invitation diy assembly
Behind the scenes! After custom designing & printing the invite and enclosure cards, the assembly can begin: layering cards together, twine embellishment cut to size, monogram tags punched, tie all together & insert face-up in outer envelope!

We had a little fun with the papel picado invitations & switched up some of the paper & ink colors. Liz also had the addresses printed on pink, watermelon envelopes (not shown). Finally, I printed the custom monogram onto a tag that we tied with twine around the 2-layer invite & enclosure cards. I cannot wait to see what we do for the reception stationery! 😉

You can do the very same to create your custom wedding suite by first working with me to develop a monogram or graphic, then adding this design to the save the dates, and finally styling the invitations to match!  fyi: If you would like to print & assemble your own stationery, I also offer DIY design assistance where I layout and provide high-resolution pdf’s ready for print!

San Francisco Skyline

I cannot believe it’s been 2 years since I first illustrated the San Francisco skyline for Lianne’s custom wedding invitation. Recently I’ve been on a roll designing more cityscapes, as well as updating the SF skyline to each clients venue location! I’m excited to finally have a gallery of new invites, showcasing how each can be customized to a specific color theme, shape & size. Let me know your favorite combo! 😉

[custom design] papel picado letterpress wedding invitation suite

I finally received a sample of dave & emily’s letterpress wedding invitation package that I custom designed for them! I cannot believe how amazing the papel picado design looks printed [these photos don’t even do it justice!] 😉 I’m so glad they found me & requested my graphic design assistance, since they already had a letterpress printer lined up [at Full Circle Press].

[custom wedding invitation] modern clouds yellow & peacock blue

It’s very exciting when I receive a “new invite project” email from my sassy, southern california wedding coordinator, uyen {sassy girl weddings & events}…  and anita & eric were our next victims!  they wanted something very unique, colorful & graphic to define their rooftop, art museum wedding celebration.

yellow & peacock blue invitations

To help start the design process, they provided art inspiration (ie: woodblock clouds & rooftop silhouette) along with their favorite invite design, plus color & font choices. My design was a success, so we went with paper-source sunshine yellow and printed the peacock blue digitally on cream felt cardstock. *I love that they wanted a fun RSVP postcard & map too… completing the package perfectly!

I can’t wait to see the actual rooftop wedding photos 😉

[wedding reception stationery] mai + john

Mai was super thoughtful to share photos of the table & menu tent stationery I designed for their reception. Everything looks beautiful, I’m sure also thanks to the assistance of Uyen at Sassy Girl Weddings.

And how gorgeous is Adrienne Gunde’s photography…see more of her work on her blog & website (I love that we both chose the same flash website template from bludomain…a random & fun tidbit 😉 But seriously, I really do enjoy seeing these professional photos of the stationery on the big day, so thanks again all you brides, photographers & planners for sharing. It really does make this behind-the-scenes paper gal happy.

[wedding invitation] tear-off RSVP postcard

This garden rose illustration was designed for lesley’s wedding invitations. She personalized the front & back of the perforated invite from my etsy listing by choosing her fonts, paper & ink colors.  *see more info on the same design here

“Yay! I am so excited. You have been so wonderful to work with, I’ve been impressed at the speed and ease with this whole process!  As well as the price and quality.  I’ve been raving about it to everyone 🙂 —lesley”

Thanks lesley! So glad you found papercake!

wedding invitation RSVP tear-off

Chelsea loved marilyn’s design {shown below} which included the tear-off response postcard, but she wanted to change the paper color & flower illustration to match her wedding theme! So, we changed the cardstock to a light pink & the flower to a gerber daisy. tear off response wedding invitation
